USDA’s FY 2027 SNAP cost-of-living adjustments take effect October 1, 2026, changing maximum allotments, income eligibility standards, and deductions that may affect October SNAP benefit amounts.
USDA’s SNAP Food Restriction Waivers tracker, updated September 16, 2026, lists state purchase-rule restrictions with implementation dates in the September–October window, including North Dakota on September 1, Montana on September 30, and Ohio and Virginia on October 1. The restrictions vary by state and include items such as sweetened beverages, candy, energy drinks, prepared desserts, and fountain drinks.
Forage’s EBT status page reported completed scheduled processor maintenance on September 16, 17, and 20, 2026. The September 16 and 17 maintenance affected AL, AS, GA, IA, IN, MS, MT, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, and UT; the September 20 maintenance affected IN, MS, OH, OK, and VA. Expected EBT processing downtime ranged from about 15 minutes to up to 1–2 hours depending on the window.
Hawaii DHS announced September 16, 2026 that SNAP households impacted by Tropical Cyclone Lala may request replacement benefits through September 23, 2026, and households impacted by Hurricane Lowell may request replacement benefits through September 28, 2026. DHS also announced USDA approval for a 60% Automated Mass Replacement for Kauaʻi SNAP households affected by Hurricane Lowell.
Indiana announced that on September 17, 2026, FSSA received federal approval for an Automated Mass Replacement waiver allowing automatic replacement of a portion of monthly SNAP benefits for recipients in designated ZIP codes within affected counties from the August 2026 severe weather event.
Tennessee DHS announced automatic Replacement SNAP benefits beginning September 4, 2026 for eligible SNAP households in specified Shelby County ZIP codes affected by the August 22 severe weather event. Replacement benefits are intended for households that experienced food loss due to prolonged power outages or household misfortune, with replacement percentages based on the date August 2026 benefits were issued.
